Job summary

Pilot Company seeks an experienced accounting policy leader to develop and communicate policies ensuring GAAP compliance and regulatory alignment. You will apply in-depth knowledge of business interdependencies to guide policy implementation and support strategic objectives in a large, shared-service environment.

The role requires CPA certification, 5+ years in technical accounting, and strong collaboration with internal/external auditors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
• CPA required (or CPA eligible with active pursuit).
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including technical accounting, financial reporting, accounting policy, or public accounting.
• Extensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
• Experience researching and documenting complex accounting issues and preparing technical accounting memoranda.
• Experience developing, implementing, and maintaining accounting policies and procedures.
• Strong understanding of SOX/internal control frameworks and audit requirements.
• Experience partnering with external auditors and resolving technical accounting matters.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, written communication, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and communication of accounting policies to ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulatory requirements.
• Apply understanding of the business to guide policy application and support business strategies.
• Adapt department plans to meet evolving short-term needs while aligning with long-term objectives.
• Identify and resolve moderately complex technical accounting issues.
• Evaluate the broader impact of accounting decisions across the organization.
• Collaborate with auditors, legal, and business units to resolve technical matters.
• Provide thought leadership to support adoption of consistent accounting practices.
• Monitor regulatory developments and assess impacts on policies and procedures.
• Communicate policies and interpretations to stakeholders with clear cooperation and alignment.
