Farmer Mac seeks a seasoned Advisor- Accounting Policy in Washington, DC to lead the policy framework, assess complex transactions, and ensure GAAP compliance. You will collaborate with auditors, regulators, and internal teams on critical disclosures and reporting.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial statement presentation, and disclosure requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to research and resolve complex accounting issues and communicate conclusions clearly and effectively.
• Strong technical writing skills with experience preparing accounting memoranda, policy documentation, and technical accounting analyses.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Farmer Mac's primary accounting policy resource for the interpretation and application of U.S. GAAP.
• Lead the development, maintenance, and governance of accounting policy codification and related framework.
• Research, evaluate, and document accounting treatment for new transactions, products, and initiatives.
• Partner with stakeholders to identify accounting implications of new initiatives and activities.
• Prepare technical accounting memoranda including analyses and key judgments.
• Monitor emerging accounting standards, SEC developments, and regulatory guidance.
• Lead the implementation of new accounting standards and disclosure requirements.
• Develop and maintain accounting policies and implementation guidance.
• Provide technical accounting guidance for complex transactions (instruments, securitizations, hedges, structured financings).
• Coordinate with external auditors, regulators, and third-party advisors on technical matters.
• Support quarterly and annual SEC reporting, including disclosures and policy updates.
• Assist in preparing Forms 10-Q and 10-K as needed.
• Develop position papers and educational materials for internal stakeholders.
• Provide technical accounting training to staff and business stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities to enhance governance, documentation, and research processes.
• Support special projects and initiatives.
