Job summary

County Connection in Concord, CA is seeking an experienced accounting professional to join the Finance team as Manager of Accounting & Payroll. You will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, payroll processing, and timely financial reporting.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will strengthen internal controls, supervise Accounting and Payroll staff, and coordinate audits and regulatory filings for a public-sector agency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
• At least five years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including two years in a supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and GASB; experience with financial systems, reporting, reconciliations and internal controls.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication and leadership skills.
• Able to drive continuous improvement and communicate with government agencies and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Manage core accounting functions (AP/AR, GL, reconciliations, month-end close, financial reporting).
• Oversee payroll processing and related tax, benefit, pension, and regulatory reporting.
• Manage cash flow and banking activities (transfers, wire payments, payroll funding, reconciliations).
• Coordinate financial and regulatory reporting (audit support, state and federal filings).
• Maintain strong internal controls and accounting practices (GAAP).
• Provide financial analysis and support special projects across the organization.
• Supervise and develop Accounting and Payroll staff; foster a collaborative environment.
