Job summary

Henrico County Finance Department seeks an Accounting Section Manager to lead centralized accounting operations and guide a professional and paraprofessional team. This senior role focuses on accurate, compliant, and efficient financial work within a collaborative county government setting.

You will plan, assign, supervise, and optimize accounting processes, develop internal controls, and present findings to leadership and the public, ensuring GAAP and GASB compliance while advancing system

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in accounting or business administration.
• Six years of professional accounting experience, including two in a supervisory role.
• Extensive knowledge of accounting, auditing, and budget preparation principles.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, with emphasis on GASB standards.
• Proficiency with spreadsheet and statistical software, and the ability to build custom reports.
• Sound professional judgment, integrity, and initiative.
• Proven ability to supervise and develop a team.

Responsibilities

• Plan, assign, supervise, and review centralized accounting operations for the County.
• Devise, apply, and monitor effective accounting procedures and internal controls.
• Analyze and interpret fiscal data and prepare accurate statements and reports.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and GASB guidance.
• Direct the setup and improvement of accounting systems and procedures; supervise, develop, and support your accounting team.
• Present recommendations clearly to staff, leadership, and the public.
