Job summary

Richmond City Public Schools is seeking a Senior Accountant in the Finance Department to support general ledger and reporting functions. You will assist in planning, organizing, and maintaining accounting records, researching data, and preparing financial reports for management.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and at least five years of government or general accounting experience, with strong GAAP/GASB knowledge.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• Minimum five years of government or general accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and GASB.
• Auditing experience a plus.
• Ability to analyze financial data and maintain confidential records.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet tools.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
• Support year-end closing and audit processes.
• Maintain and monitor fixed assets records and depreciation schedules.
• Prepare work papers and analyses for revenue and receivables.
• Manage recurring payment schedules and monthly monitoring.
• Record year-end accruals and journal entries.
• Document finance procedures and identify improvement opportunities.
• Reconcile balance sheet and bank accounts; investigate discrepancies.
• Collaborate with departments to resolve financial issues.
• Provide support to inter-departmental accounting staff as needed.
