Job summary

H2O America is seeking an Accounting Manager, Gross Margin & Regulatory to lead day‑to‑day accounting operations and ensure accuracy across multiple jurisdictions, including close processes and regulatory filings.

You will oversee reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting while guiding a team of accounting staff, strengthening internal controls, and supporting forecasting and budgeting efforts. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and/or 10+ years of relevant professional experience with progressively increased levels of responsibility.
• Holds relevant certifications required for the team’s need or directed by management.
• Holding a CPA license is a plus.
• Demonstrated experience leading technical or cross‑functional teams.
• Expertise in GAAP and bookkeeping best practices.
• Strong expertise in general ledger, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
• Experience leading audit processes and preparing relevant documentation.
• Experience in budget development, monitoring, and forecasting.
• Expertise in financial data analysis and providing actionable insights into complex anomalies.
• Deep understanding of tax compliance, internal controls (e.g. SOX) and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel).
• Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems (e.g. Oracle).
• Strong skills in stakeholder engagement and project management.
• Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Leads day-to-day accounting operations across jurisdictions.
• Oversees reconciliations and preparations across ledgers; Escalates complex discrepancies.
• Reviews complex journal entries and accruals; posts entries as needed.
• Directs month-, quarter-, and year-end close processes.
• Manages data requests from external stakeholders (actuaries, insurers).
• Assists in regulatory filings (SEC, state public utility authorities).
• Supports forecasting, modeling, and scenario planning.
• Manages a team of accounting staff and conducts hiring and mentoring.
• Develops and reviews complex financial reports for strategic decisions.
• Develops strategies to strengthen accounting processes and internal controls.
• Oversees audit procedures and coordinates auditor activities.
• Interacts with internal departments and external agencies to present information.
• Assists in financial planning and debt issuance support.
• Educates managers on departmental budgets and financial analytics.
