Job summary

H2O America is seeking an Accountant I to join our finance team in Cromwell, CT. This role supports accounting operations, maintains accurate records, prepares entries, and assists with month-end and year-end closes while contributing to robust reporting and internal controls.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree, 2+ years of experience, proficiency in GAAP, and strong Excel and ERP system experience (Oracle). Occasional after-hours work and travel may be required to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 2+ years of relevant professional experience preferred.
• Holds relevant certifications required for the team’s need or directed by management.
• CPA certification is a plus.
• Proficiency in GAAP and bookkeeping fundamentals.
• Experience with general ledger, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
• Understanding of fixed asset accounting basics.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel).
• Familiarity with ERP/accounting systems (Oracle).
• Excellent research and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and organization skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain robust financial records and prepare routine journal entries.
• Perform reconciliations on subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger; resolve discrepancies.
• Assist with month-end/year-end closes and adjusting entries.
• Prepare financial reports and data for senior staff.
• Support audits through documentation and schedules.
• Assist cash flow reporting and reconcile P-card expenses.
• Assist fixed asset accounting including capitalization and depreciation.
• Support routine compliance tasks and internal controls.
• Complete occasional evening/weekend work to meet deadlines.
• Adhere to SOX controls and provide documentation.
• Perform other duties or special projects as needed.
