Job summary

LHH Recruitment Solutions is assisting a mission-driven nonprofit in the San Francisco Bay Area in search of a Senior Accounting Manager to lead the accounting team and ensure rigorous financial stewardship.

You will oversee month-end close, grant compliance, and audit activities, partnering with executive leadership to drive strategic initiatives and scalable processes in a dynamic, mission-focused environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance or related field.
  • CPA or CMA or similar certification preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience.
  • Experience leading teams and developing accounting professionals.
  • Strong expertise in Non-Profit Accounting, federal grant compliance, and CFR 200/Uniform Guidance.
  • Experience overseeing an Annual Single Audit.
  • Experience preparing/managing a Cost Rate Proposal and indirect cost methodologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience with ERP platforms such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Sage Intacct, or similar.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and business partnership capabilities.
  • Ability to present financial information to executives, board, and stakeholders.
  • Interest in process improvement, automation, and AI-enabled tools.
  • Desire to contribute at strategic level while remaining hands-on.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team.

  • Strengthen internal controls and financial governance.
  • Partner with department leaders on budgeting and forecasting.
  • Drive process improvement, automation, and reporting enhancements.
  • Champion ERP optimization and technology adoption.
  • Monitor grants, contracts, and restricted funding for compliance and impact.
  • Communicate financial concepts across finance and non-finance teams.
  • Support long-range planning and strategic initiatives.

The Senior Accounting Manager will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and work closely with finance leadership, including the Controller. Primary Responsibilities

As the Senior Accounting Manager, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Act as the organization's subject matter expert for Non-Profit Accounting, CFR 200, Uniform Guidance, and federal grant compliance.
  • Lead the preparation and management of the organization's Cost Rate Proposal and indirect cost recovery strategies.
  • Oversee the Annual Single Audit process and collaborate with auditors, leadership, and funding agencies.
  • Strengthen internal controls, financial governance, and compliance programs.
  • Partner with department leaders on budgeting, forecasting, staffing plans, resource allocation, and operational decision-making.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives focused on scalability, efficiency, automation, and reporting enhancement.
  • Champion financial systems optimization, ERP improvements, reporting tools, and technology adoption.
  • Monitor grants, contracts, and restricted funding to ensure compliance and maximize organizational effectiveness.
  • Build strong relationships across the organization and communicate financial concepts clearly to both finance and non‑finance audiences.
  • Support long-range planning and strategic initiatives that advance the organization's mission and future growth.
Preferred Experience & Qualifications
