The Atlanta Beltline is building a more socially and economically resilient Atlanta with our partner organizations and host communities through job creation, inclusive transportation systems, affordable housing and public spaces for all.

Atlanta Beltline, Inc. (ABI) is seeking an experienced Senior Accounting Manager to support the Director of Finance in overseeing the organization's general accounting operations and ensuring accurate, complete, and timely financial reporting and transaction processing. Serving as the primary accounting review function within the Finance Department, this position is responsible for reviewing accounting transactions, reconciliations, funding requests, journal entries, payment runs, and supporting schedules prior to submission to the Director of Finance and Chief Financial Officer.

The Senior Accounting Manager will directly supervise the accounting team, maintain and enhance accounting procedures and internal controls, and ensure compliance with organizational policies, grant requirements, and funding restrictions. This position plays a critical role in identifying accounting issues, investigating variances, strengthening processes, and supporting the organization's financial stewardship and operational effectiveness.

The position regularly interacts with employees throughout the organization as well as representatives of Atlanta Beltline Partnership, Invest Atlanta, the City of Atlanta, auditors, grantors, and other external stakeholders. Success in this role requires strong technical accounting expertise, nonprofit accounting knowledge, analytical thinking, professional communication skills, and the ability to balance detailed transactional review with broader organizational objectives.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience collaborating across departments, providing exceptional accounting service, and supporting organizational goals through sound financial management. This role requires a strong understanding of accrual-based accounting, exceptional analytical and documentation skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively balance detailed review with strategic priorities. The Senior Accounting Manager will promote the Vision, Mission and Core Values of ABI while fostering a collegial work environment.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Manage all aspects of general accounting operations and serve as the department's primary accounting review function. Review accounting transactions, journal entries, reconciliations, funding requisitions, invoice approvals, payment runs, and supporting schedules for accuracy, completeness, compliance, and proper documentation.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely completion of reconciliations, accruals, funding requests, financial analyses, and supporting schedules.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, grant accounting, and general ledger activities.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, funding restrictions, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the preparation and review of audit schedules, audit requests, grant reporting requirements, and financial statement support.
  • Establish and maintain review procedures designed to identify errors, coding inconsistencies, unsupported transactions, and process inefficiencies.
  • Monitor departmental deadlines and workflow assignments to ensure timely reporting to the Director of Finance, CFO, Executive Leadership Team, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.
  • Review cash flow projections and funding availability analyses to support organizational cash management and funding decisions.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor schedules related to grants, contracts, capital projects, fixed assets, debt obligations, funding agreements, and recurring departmental activities.
  • Ensure proper accounting treatment and reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds in accordance with grant, donor, and funding source requirements.
  • Provide accounting guidance and technical support to departments regarding coding, documentation requirements, procurement processes, contract administration, and financial policies.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, standardization, and enhanced internal controls while maintaining appropriate segregation of duties and risk mitigation practices.
  • Understanding of the impacts of institutional and systemic barriers on marginalized communities and a commitment to integrating equity and inclusion throughout all facets of work.
Position Requirements:
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in good standing strongly preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible accounting experience required.
  • Experience leading or supervising full-cycle accounting operations in a fast-paced environment required.
  • Experience within a nonprofit organization, governmental entity, quasi-governmental organization, or other mission-driven organization strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting annual audits and financial reporting requirements required.
  • Experience with construction accounting, capital projects, affordable housing, economic development, grant administration, and multiple funding sources highly desirable.
  • Public accounting, audit, or client service experience preferred.
Selection Criteria:
