The Senior Accountant will play a key role in month-end and year-end close processes, financial statement preparation, account reconciliations, grant and project accounting, restricted and unrestricted fund tracking, budgeting and forecasting support, audit coordination, regulatory reporting, and accounts payable oversight. This position will also support grant- and donor-funded activities and ensure compliance with funding requirements.

Given the complexity of ABI's operations, including capital projects, grants, public funding, and strategic partnerships, the Senior Accountant must be comfortable working in a dynamic environment while supporting the organization's financial stewardship and strategic objectives. The Senior Accountant will promote the Vision, Mission and Core Values of ABI while fostering a collegial work environment.

  • Manage accounting for grants, contributions, sponsorships, and other funding sources, including the tracking of restricted and unrestricted net assets.
  • Monitor grant revenues and expenditures to ensure compliance with donor restrictions, grant agreements, and organizational policies.
  • Prepare grant reimbursement requests, financial reports, and supporting documentation required by funders and stakeholders.
  • Support the annual financial statement audit, Form 990 preparation, and other compliance reporting requirements by preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests.
  • Assist with annual budget development, forecasting, and periodic financial reporting.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to accounting processes, internal controls, and financial reporting procedures to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Provide accounting guidance and support to program managers and other departments regarding grant compliance, funding requirements, and nonprofit accounting practices.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to support organizational goals and financial stewardship.
  • Understanding of the impacts of institutional and systemic barriers on marginalized communities and a commitment to integrating equity and inclusion throughout all facets of work.
Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree, CPA, or other relevant professional certification preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible accounting experience required.
  • At least three (3) years of nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with grant accounting, donor-restricted funds, and federal, state, local, or foundation grants required.
  • Experience with nonprofit financial reporting required.
