Job summary

Port Townsend Paper Company seeks an Accounting Lead to provide technical and operational leadership for the mill accounting function in Port Townsend, WA. You will drive the financial close, ensure GL integrity, and support budgeting and forecasting while advancing automation and internal controls.

The role supervises the accounting team, mentors staff, and collaborates with the Director of Finance to optimize processes, accuracy, and reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance required or equivalent.
• CPA designation preferred or progress toward CPA.
• Minimum five years of progressive accounting experience with close and balance sheet reconciliations.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes; coordinate activities for timely results.
• Prepare and review journal entries, including complex accruals and adjusting entries.
• Maintain general ledger and chart of accounts within 4Site; ensure correct cost center classification.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and variance analyses; explain significant variances.
• Oversee balance sheet reconciliations; manage fixed assets and CIP accounting.
• Coordinate sales/use tax, WA B&O tax, and property tax filings; liaise with PwC on income tax schedules.
• Support internal controls improvements and assist with external audits; mentor accounting staff.
