Job summary

ID.me is seeking a Senior Accountant to own the accounting for our largest expense category—our people. This role drives payroll, bonus, commission, benefits, insurance, and severance accounting from journal entries to accruals and audits.

You’ll also review day-to-day accounts payable activity and collaborate with HR/People and FP&A on cost analysis. As a hands-on leader, you’ll partner with Finance, HR/People, and FP&A to explain cost movements and provide ad-hoc analytics.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience, with a preference for public accounting background.
• Hands-on ownership of payroll and compensation accounting, including journal entries, tax reconciliations, bonus/PTO accruals, and benefits accounting.
• Working knowledge of US GAAP relevant to employee costs: ASC 710, ASC 420/712, ASC 340-40.
• Experience with self-insured benefit plans, IBNR accruals, and stop-loss arrangements a plus.
• Experience with multi-state payroll and coordination with payroll/tax service providers.
• Comfort working across payroll and HRIS platforms (ADP, UKG, Workday, or similar), reconciled to an ERP.
• Comfort with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) and modern accounting tools.
• Experience in high-volume transactional environments (SaaS/tech a plus).
• Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and end-to-end ownership.
• Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills, with a willingness to automate and streamline.
• Demonstrated interest in applying AI and automation to accounting workflows.
• Ability to handle sensitive compensation and employee data with complete discretion.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred; CPA or progress toward CPA a plus, not required.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Payroll to record each payroll cycle and reconcile payroll with the general ledger.
• Prepare and maintain accruals for bonuses, sign-on bonuses, PTO, and other compensation.
• Own the commission accounting cycle, ASC 340-40 considerations, and variance reconciliation.
• Account for severance and other termination benefits and track payouts.
• Own benefits and insurance accounting, including HSA/FSA and 401(k) accruals.
• Reconcile headcount and compensation data across HRIS, payroll, and GL.
• Partner on compensation/headcount variance analysis with FP&A.
• Review vendor onboarding and daily AP transactions as a back-up.
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations and variance investigations.
• Support month-end close with journals, accruals, and analyses.
• Conduct ad-hoc financial analytics and leverage AI for automation.
• Support payroll/HRIS implementations and ERP integrations.
• Assist with SOX-ready controls over payroll and compensation.
• Liaise with external auditors on people-related costs.
