Responsibilities

Job description

Job Overview: This position is responsible for the full-cycle accounting process for multiple oil and gas entities, including general ledger accounting, joint interest billing (JIB), and revenue accounting. The position ensures accurate financial reporting and effective coordination with internal teams and external partners.

  • Oversee lease and broker payment processing, including entry and review of weekly disbursements in WolfePak
  • Maintain and reconcile lease schedules to land records to ensure accuracy of ownership and payment obligations
  • Support month-end, quarter-end and year-end processes by analyzing accounts to ensure that entries and balances are correct
  • Prepare journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation related to amortization, depreciation, accruals and a variety of other information. Ensure entries align with tax basis accounting.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts on a regular basis to ensure entries are accurate and that transactions are reported in accordance with accounting standards and government regulations; make corrections as necessary
  • Prepare financial statements by collecting, analyzing and summarizing account information and trends; and ensure accuracy of financial statements in accordance with tax basis accounting and internal compliance policies
  • Perform balance sheet account reconciliations for accounts receivable, accounts payable and prepaids; confirm the reasonableness as it relates to financials
  • Maintain accounting ledgers by posting cash transactions on a daily basis
  • Maintain detailed support for all balance sheet accounts
  • Compile and analyze data and generate reports as needed
  • Prepare and review internal financial statements and various supporting schedules
  • Support variance analysis and management reporting
  • Collaborate with internal departments to resolve accounting discrepancies
  • Prepare, analyze and distribute 1099s
  • Assist with tax inquiries and provide data and documentation to support tax reporting
  • Provide support on special projects and ad hoc analyses as needed
  • Contribute to automation, process improvement, and efficiency initiatives.
Revenue Functions:
  • Process non-operated revenue on a monthly basis
  • Accurately setup and maintain non-operated properties in accounting system as properties are acquired and sold
  • Analyze and input revenue into accounting system timely so that the system is always up-to-date; identify and
  • Prepare and analyze monthly revenue accruals, ensure timely and accurate reconciliation to actual results
  • Maintain fixed asset and oil and gas property accounting records
  • Review operational reports, including LOS and property reports
JIB Functions:
  • Receive and analyze joint interest billing invoices for monthly expenses of working interest of oil and gas properties; determine codes for invoices; input information for payment into accounting software for well related accounting
  • Document whether or not the working interest is correct; if amount exceeds identified threshold, verify whether or not an AFE exists
  • Resolve inquiries from owners and operators regarding missing payments and other issues as they arise
  • Prepare and review ad valorem tax filings for payment
  • Prepare and analyze monthly reports associated with the JIB process
Job Qualifications (Education, Experience and Competencies required for the position):
  • Minimum experience requirements: 3+ years of accounting experience in the upstream oil and gas industry
  • Minimum education experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Oil and Gas accounting, operations and terminology
  • Experience using WolfePak and EnergyLink software is required
  • Experience using Quorum/OGsys software is beneficial
  • Demonstrated application of accounting principles
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage and meet multiple concurrent deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to accurately perform work with close attention to detail and prioritize work so it is completed in a timely manner

  • Must be able to multi-task, be self-motivated, reliable, dependable, and agile
  • Must possess a positive attitude and be highly effective in a team environment
  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to perform in-depth analysis with many different types of data (pivot tables and VLOOKUP)
  • Intermediate proficiency of Microsoft Office; experience using Co-Pilot is beneficial
  • Must be able to operate all office equipment (computer, copier, scanner, mail machine, etc.)
