Job summary

Landon School in Bethesda, MD, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its Business Office. Reporting to the Controller, the Accountant will manage general ledger activities, month-end close, reconciliations, and audits with a focus on GAAP compliance and strong internal controls.

As a nonprofit independent school, the role collaborates with Development, Finance, and Operations to ensure accurate financial reporting and donor fund accounting. Strong Excel and ERP experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with significant coursework.
• Minimum two years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting systems.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Maintain general ledger accuracy and prepare journal entries.
• Perform monthly reconciliations and close processes.
• Prepare financial reports and analyze budget-to-actual results.
• Support restricted and unrestricted funds, endowments, investments, and related reconciliations.
• Assist with audits and Form 990 filings and improve internal controls.
• Document accounting procedures and collaborate across departments.
