Job summary

Harris County Department of Education is seeking a Senior Accountant - Operations to maintain HCDE’s general ledger for the General Fund and other funds, and to prepare journal entries, budget transfers, and monthly close activities.

The role requires a CPA or MPAcc preferred, with at least five years' public sector and governmental accounting experience, plus strong communication and budgeting skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited university.
• CPA or MPAcc preferred.
• Knowledge of Governmental Accounting and TEA Financial Resource Guide.
• Experience with governmental accounting and budgeting.

Responsibilities

• Maintain complete and systematic records of financial transactions.
• Maintain ledger for the General Fund and other funds; prepare journal entries and budget transfers.
• Analyze the general ledger and interpret financial information for recommendations to Senior Director.
• Assist divisions with accounting transactions and report reviews.
• Prepare/review quarterly, semi-annual and annual grant reports for Senior Director.
• Prepare budgets for assigned funds following TEA and GAAP standards.
• Provide budget support to CASE program and processing of requisitions and adjustments.
• Prepare monthly financial and grant reports including SEFA and drawdowns.
