Job summary

AKRON METROPOLITAN HOUSING AUTHORITY in Akron, OH, is seeking a Senior Accountant for Financial Reporting and General Ledger to support monthly close, reconciliations, and HUD reporting. The role reports to the Director of Finance and requires a bachelor’s in accounting or finance with at least five years of experience. CPA/CGFM is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
• CPA, CGFM, or other relevant professional certification is preferred.
• Strong reconciliation, research, documentation, organizational, mathematical, reasoning and problem‑solving skills; attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Prepares journal entries, including accruals, reversals, cash adjustments, beginning-balance corrections, allocations, and year-end entries; maintains complete supporting documentation.
• Completes monthly balance sheet reconciliations and researches aged, unusual, unsupported, or out-of-balance items; prepares corrective entries and escalates significant issues to the Controller.
• Reviews general ledger and trial balance activity for multiple HUD programs and other activities as assigned.
• Prepares monthly and year-end schedules for accounts payable/receivable, inventory, fixed assets, payroll liabilities, and other accounts.
• Maintains Financial Data Schedule components and prepares audit support; assists with ACFR preparation.
• Assists with preparation and reporting for HUD program compliance, grant reporting, and other required filings.
• Supports preparation of reserve deposits, withdrawals, and transfers and related reconciliations for restricted accounts.
• Assists with audit requests and maintains audit-ready documentation.
• Provides technical assistance to Finance staff and coordinates with auditors.
