Job summary

Oliver James Group in Charlotte, NC seeks a Senior Accountant to own US GAAP and statutory accounting for life/health entities. You will prepare financial statements, journal entries, and detailed reconciliations while interfacing with senior leadership in a growing life insurance platform.

The role offers exposure to quarterly/annual reporting, Blue Book/statutory reporting, internal controls, and collaboration with the wider Finance team.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of US insurance accounting experience.
• Experience with life/annuity/health insurance preferred.
• Understanding of US GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles.
• Blue Book / statutory statement experience desirable.
• ERP system experience.

We're working a growing life insurance platform focused on retirement and annuity solutions, on a Senior Accountant opportunity reporting directly to the Director of Finance.

This is a great opportunity for an insurance accountant who wants to take ownership across GAAP, STAT, financial reporting and statutory accounting, while gaining direct exposure to senior leadership in a growing business.

KEY SPECIFICATION

• Prepare US GAAP & Statutory financial statements
• Accounting for multiple life/health insurance entities
• Prepare journal entries and detailed balance sheet reconciliations
• Support quarterly and annual financial reporting
• Assist with Blue Book / statutory reporting
• Support external audit and statutory examinations
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls
• Analyse financial results, trends and variances
• Support process improvements and ad-hoc Finance projects
• Work directly with the wider Finance team

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

• 3+ years of US insurance accounting experience
• Life / annuity / health insurance industry experience strongly preferred
• Understanding of US GAAP + Statutory Accounting Principles
• Blue Book / statutory statement experience highly desirable
• Experience with an ERP system
• Strong analytical and communication skills
