Job summary

Selby Jennings is seeking an experienced Senior Manager, Financial Reporting & Accounting to lead statutory accounting and reporting across insurance and reinsurance operations. You will oversee the close process, ensure SAP-based statutory reporting accuracy, and partner with senior leadership on technical accounting matters while guiding a small accounting team.

You will manage U.S. and select international entities, coordinate with auditors and regulators, and research complex accounting

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA preferred.
• 7+ years of insurance accounting experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of SAP and insurance statutory reporting.
• Experience preparing and reviewing Annual Statement filings.
• Deep understanding of life insurance, annuity, and reinsurance accounting.
• Experience managing portions of the general ledger close process, including journal entries and reconciliations.
• Strong knowledge of internal controls, audit support, and financial reporting.
• Experience working directly with internal and external auditors.
• Ability to research and apply accounting guidance to complex transactions.
• Knowledge of both GAAP and statutory reporting frameworks.
• Experience managing teams and collaborating across multiple stakeholders.
• Strong communication and project management skills.
• Track record of driving process improvements, automation initiatives, and operational efficiencies.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with accounting, finance, actuarial, tax, treasury, and legal teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the month-end and quarter-end close processes related to insurance and reinsurance accounting activities.
• Review and approve journal entries, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting policies.
• Oversee balance sheet reconciliations and investigate reconciling items as needed.
• Maintain strong internal controls over accounting and financial reporting processes.
• Serve as the accounting and reporting lead for various insurance entities and ensure accurate financial statement reporting.
• Manage statutory accounting and reporting requirements for U.S. insurance operations and select international insurance entities.
• Coordinate with external auditors and regulators and manage audit requests.
• Prepare and review statutory financial statement disclosures and supporting schedules.
• Research and document technical accounting conclusions related to insurance and reinsurance transactions.

• Identify opportunities to improve processes through automation, standardization, and reporting enhancements.
• Partner closely with Actuarial, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Legal, and Accounting Policy teams.
• Mentor and develop accounting staff while managing workloads and ensuring timely deliverables.
