Job summary

HI USA, based in Silver Spring, MD, is seeking a Senior Accountant, Financial Operations to strengthen our financial operations and support the mission-driven work of our organization. The role focuses on accounts payable, reconciliations, month-end closes, and audit support, delivering accurate financial reporting while partnering with vendors, auditors, and internal teams in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including accounts payable and reconciliations.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and month-end close processes.
• Experience with account reconciliations, accruals, 1099 reporting and audit support.
• Hands-on experience with accounting and ERP systems; Sage Intacct preferred.
• Experience with Concur or similar expense-management system preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage accounts payable processing with coding, documentation review, approvals, and payments.
• Monitor AP aging and follow up with vendors and internal stakeholders.
• Coordinate new vendor setup and maintain vendor information.
• Prepare AP accruals and month-end close adjustments.
• Prepare prepaid expenses and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Reconcile bank accounts and investigate discrepancies.
• Review employee expense reports and corporate card activity.
• Prepare occupancy tax filings and 1099 reporting.
• Assist the annual financial statement audit with schedules and responses.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen internal controls and automate processes.
