Job summary

Philz Coffee, Inc. is seeking a Senior Accountant to own the month-end close, enhance controls, and partner with FP&A, Operations, and Supply Chain. This role can work remotely within the Greater Los Angeles area, with a transition to a hybrid office environment planned for late 2026.

You will mentor staff, lead technical accounting, and support audits while delivering accurate financial reporting for the multi-unit retail business.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA strongly preferred (active or in progress).
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting/audit and multi-unit retail/restaurant is ideal.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including revenue recognition and lease accounting.
• Advanced Excel and ERP experience; reporting/BI tools a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own the full month-end and quarter-end close process for assigned areas.
• Prepare/review complex journal entries (revenue recognition, ASC 842 lease accounting, stock-based comp).
• Review balance sheet reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of items.
• Oversee store-level revenue/COGS accounting; manage multi-location consolidation.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and variance commentary for leadership.
• Serve as primary contact for external auditors; prepare memos and PBC schedules.
• Lead or support SOX control execution and documentation; remediate deficiencies.
• Document accounting treatments for new transactions and store growth initiatives.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance close efficiency and controls.
