Group One is seeking a Senior Accountant on-site in Union, NJ, with a clear path to becoming Controller within roughly four years as the finance team embraces AI-assisted workflows. You will develop and back up Controller functions while learning the business across multiple entities.

The role emphasizes ownership of monthly closes, intercompany reconciliations, sales tax, fixed assets, and collaboration with auditors and banking partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting is required.
• At least two years of multi-entity monthly close experience or public accounting experience.
• Strong reconciliation discipline with documented workpapers.
• Experience with cloud general ledger and Excel; willingness to use AI tools.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the monthly close for multiple entities and deliver P&L and balance sheet packages for Controller review.
• Keep every balance sheet account reconciled and supported with owners and dates for open items.
• Prepare reconciliations tied to bank, line of credit and loans, lease liabilities, prepaids, payroll and sales tax liabilities, and fixed assets.
• Prepare intercompany elimination entries and run intercompany reconciliation across all entities monthly.
• Own the multi-state sales tax calendar: prepare returns and payments and maintain rate tables.
• Maintain the fixed asset register and related insurance allocations.
• Prepare monthly lender borrowing base and covenant package and assist auditors and bank contacts.
• Build and run AI-assisted workflows in Claude for recurring tasks and document procedures.
