About Upserve, Inc.

Upserve is a restaurant technology and payments platform serving independent and multi-location full-service restaurants across North America. As a newly independent, private equity-backed business, Upserve is rebuilding and scaling its operating engine with the discipline, visibility, and financial controls required for the next stage of growth.

This is an opportunity to join a company where accounting is not a back-office function; it is a critical operating discipline that protects data integrity, creates financial clarity, and supports faster, better business decisions.

Role Summary

The Senior Accountant will own core accounting operations, support the monthly close process, prepare financial reporting, strengthen reconciliations, and help build a clean, scalable accounting foundation for Upserve. This role requires a technically strong accountant who can operate in the details, identify process gaps, and communicate financial information clearly to finance and business leaders.

The ideal candidate brings strong GAAP knowledge, advanced Excel capability, comfort with ERP systems, and the judgment to work in a fast-moving private equity-backed environment.

This person must be accurate, organized, deadline-driven, and energized by building structure where the business needs better visibility and control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Month-End and Year-End Close: Lead and execute assigned close activities, including journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, intercompany entries, and general ledger review.

  • Financial Reporting and Analysis: Prepare financial statements, management reporting schedules, flux analysis, and variance commentary that help leadership understand performance drivers.

  • Reconciliations and Data Integrity: Perform complex reconciliations across balance sheet, bank, cash, revenue, deferred revenue, payment processing, and general ledger accounts.

  • Audit and Compliance: Maintain GAAP compliance, support internal controls, prepare audit schedules, and serve as a key point of contact for external audit requests.

  • Process Improvement: Identify accounting workflow gaps, improve close cadence, document SOPs, and help build scalable controls for a carve-out environment.

  • Cross-Functional Support: Partner with Finance, Operations, Sales, HR, and external vendors to resolve accounting issues and improve financial visibility.

  • Team Support: Review work prepared by junior accounting staff, provide coaching, and help set standards for accuracy, accountability, and urgency.

  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist with budget preparation, forecast updates, account-level analysis, and ad hoc financial projects requested by leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting, and audit support.

  • Strong practical knowledge of GAAP and internal control principles.

  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, complex formulas, data validation, and financial analysis.

  • Experience with Campfire ERP or accounting systems such as NetSuite, QuickBooks, SAP, Sage Intacct, or similar platforms.

  • Ability to analyze large datasets, investigate discrepancies, and translate findings into clear business recommendations.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain accounting issues to non-accounting stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to prioritize competing deadlines while maintaining accuracy and accountability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or CPA-track strongly preferred.

  • Public accounting experience or audit background preferred.

  • Experience in SaaS, payments, restaurant technology, fintech, or other transaction-heavy environments.

  • Experience with revenue recognition, deferred revenue, merchant/payment processor reconciliations, sales tax, multi-entity accounting, or intercompany accounting.

  • Experience supporting a private equity-backed company, carve-out, turnaround, or high-growth operating environment.

  • Comfort building documentation, close checklists, reconciliations, and process controls from the ground up.

  • Leadership and Operating Competencies

  • Builder Mindset: Creates structure, documents process, and improves the operating rhythm instead of simply maintaining what exists.

  • High Ownership: Takes accountability for deadlines, accuracy, follow-through, and clean handoffs.

  • Business Acumen: Understands that accounting is a decision-support function, not just a compliance function.

  • Detail Discipline: Catches issues early, validates assumptions, and protects the integrity of financial data.

  • Executive Communication: Communicates with clarity, brevity, and confidence when explaining accounting matters to leadership.

  • Change Agility: Operates effectively in a carve-out environment where systems, processes, and responsibilities are evolving.

First 90 Days: Success Outcomes

  • Own assigned month-end close activities with clear deadlines, documented status, and minimal rework.

  • Build or refine key account reconciliation schedules and identify material gaps or risk areas.

  • Produce clean, management-ready variance explanations for priority accounts and financial statements.

  • Support audit and diligence requests with accurate, organized, and timely schedules.

  • Recommend practical improvements to the close calendar, reconciliations, controls, and accounting workflow.
