Job summary

Client is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing cancer and other diseases through clinical trials and research. The Senior Accountant will oversee advanced accounting functions, support monthly and annual close, and ensure compliance with policies and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Experience in nonprofit accounting, government contracting, or research orgs.
  • Knowledge of federal grant and contract accounting principles.
  • Familiarity with project-based accounting and labor allocations.
  • Experience supporting annual financial audits.
  • MIP Fund Accounting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly reconciliations for balance sheet accounts and resolve reconciling items.
  • Record and reconcile cash receipts, disbursements, and banking transactions.
  • Maintain prepaid expense schedules and prepare related journal entries.
  • Assist with month- and year-end closing activities, including accruals.
  • Prepare and track invoices for sponsored projects and service agreements.
  • Maintain accounts receivable records and monitor aging for timely collections.
  • Maintain project labor and hours-tracking to support billing and reporting.
  • Review payroll entries and labor allocations prior to posting.
  • Prepare and file state/local tax returns (B&O and Sales/Use).
  • Support nonprofit accounting standards, contractual requirements, and internal policies.
  • Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and audits.
  • Participate in developing and documenting accounting procedures and controls.

They partner with academic institutions, government agencies, and industry sponsors to support innovative clinical research.
Position Summary:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing advanced accounting functions, supporting the monthly and annual financial close processes, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations for assigned balance sheet accounts and investigate and resolve reconciling items.
  • Record and reconcile cash receipts, disbursements, and banking transactions.
  • Maintain and reconcile prepaid expense schedules. Prepare monthly journal entries related to prepaid expenses.
  • Assist with month and year-end and year-end closing activities, including accruals and account analyses.
  • Prepare and track customer invoices for sponsored projects and service agreements.
  • Maintain accounts receivable records and monitor aging reports to support timely collections.
  • Establish and maintain customer information within accounting and customer billing systems.
  • Maintain project labor and hours-tracking systems to support billing and financial reporting.
  • Review payroll entries and labor allocations for accuracy prior to posting. Prepare and maintain benefits schedules and entries.
  • Prepare and file state and local tax returns, including Business & Occupation (B&O) tax and Sales/Use tax filings.
  • Support compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, contractual requirements, and internal policies.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, management reports and audits.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and documentation of accounting procedures and internal controls.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration.
  • Experience in nonprofit accounting, government contracting, research organizations, or professional services environments.
  • Knowledge of federal grant and contract accounting principles and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with project-based accounting and labor allocation methodologies.
  • Experience supporting annual financial audits.
  • Experience with MIP Fund Accounting is preferred.
Compensation:
  • Base salary of up to $105k
