Job summary

Atrium Staffing client, a mission-driven nonprofit, seeks a Senior Accountant to manage daily accounting operations, close processes, and contribute to financial reporting.

You will maintain the general ledger, assist with budgeting, support audits, ensure GAAP and nonprofit standards, mentor junior staff, and partner with cross-functional teams on financial initiatives.

Qualifications

• 5 - 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of GAAP.
• Experience with month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting, and budgeting.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and complex formulas.
• Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics GP, or similar platforms.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Maintain the general ledger in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
• Assist with the preparation of the annual operating budget and monitor budget-to-actual performance.
• Analyze financial variances and provide recommendations.
• Prepare audit schedules and support annual external audits.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accounting operations.
• Mentor and guide junior accounting staff.
• Provide backup support for accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed.
• Partner with cross-functional teams and department leaders on financial reporting and operational initiatives.

Position Overview:

Our client is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting for a growing nonprofit organization. This role is responsible for maintaining the general ledger, leading month-end and year-end close processes, assisting with budgeting, supporting external audits, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
