Position Summary

The Senior Accountant plays a key role in supporting the organization’s accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, and assisting with timely reporting to leadership, the Board of Directors, and external stakeholders. The Senior Accountant works closely with executive leadership to support sound financial management and organizational sustainability.

Duties
Financial Management & Reporting
  • Manage day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll processing support, and cash reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement preparation in accordance with GAAP
  • Maintain accurate tracking of restricted and unrestricted funds
  • Assist with budget monitoring and variance analysis; provide financial data to management
  • Support cash flow tracking and financial forecasting processes
Compliance & Controls
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, and applicable laws and regulations
  • Maintain financial records in accordance with internal policies and established internal controls
  • Assist in preparation for annual audits and serve as a point of contact for auditors as needed
  • Support preparation of required filings, including Form 990
Grants & Fund Accounting
  • Monitor grant budgets and expenditures to ensure compliance with funding requirements
  • Assist program staff with cost allocation and expense tracking
  • Prepare financial reports for funders and government agencies under supervision
Collaboration & Support
  • Collaborate with leadership and program teams to provide financial information and analysis
  • Provide guidance and support to accounting staff as needed
  • Assist with process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
  • Contribute to financial planning discussions and organizational initiatives
Qualifications Required
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting principles
  • Experience supporting audits and financial reporting processes
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks and Excel
Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  • Experience with grant management and government funding

Pay:

$80,000.00 per year
