Qualifications

  • Strong reconciliation, reporting, and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Senior Accountant leads accounting activities related to corporate accounting functions, grants, contributions, restricted funds, and donor compliance functions. The position ensures accurate revenue recognition, deferred revenue tracking, grant reconciliation, and audit readiness for all philanthropic funding sources. The role supports organizational compliance and financial transparency through detailed accounting, reporting, and collaboration with internal partners.

Essential Functions
Grant Accounting and Balance Sheet Reconciliation
  • Reconcile grants and restricted funding activity monthly with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Record grant income and contributions according to applicable revenue recognition standards.
  • Maintain deferred revenue schedules and grant reconciliation documentation.
  • Review audit workpapers and coordinate audit support activities.
  • Prepare required financial reports for funders, including billing.
Audit Compliance and Support
  • Prepare monthly and year end journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for financial reporting.
  • Support month-end, year-end close, and financial reporting activities.
  • Prepare annual audit workpapers and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, donor requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Support grant budgeting and financial reporting for proposals and submissions.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.
General Ledger, Financial Reporting and Budgeting
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain fixed asset and debt schedules.
  • Collaborate with the philanthropy department to establish budgets for grant submissions as well as annual internal budgeting for programs.
  • Partner with Philanthropy and Impact, Property Accounting, and our third-party property management agency regarding development accounting and reporting activities.
  • Support financial systems improvements, upgrades, and special accounting projects.
  • Provide development accounting insight and recommendations to the Controller and Finance leadership.
  • Engages in self-reflection and open dialogue to recognize personal bias and support a respectful, inclusive workplace that constructively challenges racism and dominant culture.
  • Supports the development of inclusive practices in daily work to promote racial equity and further the organization’s mission.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Support departmental process improvement and accounting system enhancement initiatives.
  • Participate in organizational reporting, planning, and special projects as assigned.
