Platform Finance · In Office at Boyce Plaza · Reports to Controller
Is This You...
- Two to four years into public accounting and ready to stop auditing other people's books and start owning your own?
- Someone who wants to see the whole picture of a business, not one section of a work paper.
- Precise, self-directed and a little bit competitive about getting the close done right and done early.
- Interested in lending, real estate and how a family of operating companies fits together.
- Ready for a small company where you will be trusted with a lot, quickly.
About The Role
SteelPoint Capital Holdings is a Pittsburgh based family of companies spanning real estate investment, private capital lending (Loans for Landlords), real estate property management, accounting and advisory services, marketing, and a growing private capital platform. We are scaling quickly, we run on EOS, and we hold ourselves to a standard of institutional quality reporting and controls while keeping the speed and heart of a founder led business.
What You'll Own
Monthly Close Execution
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets and depreciation for SteelPoint Capital and other subsidiary entities.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations for every account, every month, with support attached.
- Own the close checklist for your entities and hit business day 10 every month.
- Review the bookkeeping Accruity performs for the group and clear exceptions before the Controller's review.
Loan and Investor Accounting
- Reconcile the loan tape to the general ledger monthly: principal, interest income, fees, deferred costs and reserves.
- Reconcile investor notes and distributions to InvestNext.
- Maintain the schedules that support interest income, accrued interest and fee recognition.
Consolidation and Intercompany
- Maintain intercompany accounts across all entities and prepare monthly eliminations.
- Prepare the consolidation work papers and the first draft of consolidated financial statements.
- Investigate and resolve intercompany differences at the source.
Audit Readiness and Technical Accounting
- Build and maintain audit ready work papers: roll forwards, tie outs and support that an outside auditor can follow.
- Draft short technical memos on new transactions and accounting positions for the Controller's review.
- Support the annual review or audit and the tax firm's year end requests.
Systems and Process
- Serve as an administrator in QuickBooks Online: chart of accounts, classes, users and integrations.
- Improve the close every quarter. Automate a recurring task, eliminate a manual reconciliation, shorten a step.
- Use AI tools to draft reconciliation explanations, memos and variance notes and share what works with the team.
Who You Are
- Two to four years in public accounting, ideally audit, at the senior or experienced staff level.
- CPA or actively pursuing it. We will support exam fees and study time.
- Solid US GAAP fundamentals and the ability to research a question and write the answer in a page.
- Strong Excel. QuickBooks Online experience is a plus.
- Detail driven and organized. Predictive Index profiles such as Analyzer, Guardian, Specialist or Scholar are typical of people who thrive in this seat.
- You want to grow into an accounting manager or assistant controller seat and you are willing to earn it.
People who thrive here often come from a Big Four or regional public accounting audit practice with real estate, financial services or private company clients, or from a small company accounting seat where they owned a close early in their career.
