Job summary

LHH is partnering with a fast-growing construction company in Oakland to hire a hands-on Senior Accountant who supports project profitability with full-cycle construction accounting expertise.

The role focuses on job costing, WIP, and GAAP-compliant financial reporting, offering high visibility across operations and leadership. 5+ years in construction accounting is preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction, contracting, or project-based environments.
• Strong QuickBooks experience (Desktop or Online) is required.
• Experience with job costing, WIP schedules, or percentage-of-completion accounting.
• Advanced Excel skills and strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Own full-cycle accounting for construction operations, including A/P, A/R, and general ledger.
• Manage job costing and project accounting, tracking budgets vs. actuals.
• Perform bank and credit card reconciliations and oversee cash activity.
• Prepare monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow).
• Support WIP schedules, project forecasts, and cost analysis.
• Maintain and reconcile fixed assets and equipment tracking.
• Partner with operations and project managers on cost controls and reporting.
• Assist with audit preparation, tax support, and year-end close.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and industry-specific accounting standards.

What We’re Looking For:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
• 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction, contracting, or project-based environments
• Strong QuickBooks experience (Desktop or Online required)
• Experience with job costing, WIP schedules, or percentage-of-completion accounting
• Advanced Excel skills and strong attention to detailAbility to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong analytical mindset with a proactive, problem-solving approach
• Experience with ERP systems or construction software is a plus
