Job summary

TMX Group in New York is seeking a Senior Accountant to manage complex accounting activities, ensure accuracy of financial records, and provide comprehensive reporting across the US region.

You will own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, conduct detailed balance sheet reconciliations, support external audits, and partner with Sales, Ops, and HR on budgeting and process improvements. Hybrid work in NYC; salary range $100k–$120k USD.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of progressive full‑cycle accounting experience with US GAAP.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, dynamic modeling).
  • CPA or CMA designation is a plus.
  • Hands-on Workday ERP experience.
  • Familiarity with IFRS standards.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the Financial Engine (Financial Reporting & General Ledger).
  • Own the Close: end-to-end monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Manage complex journal entries, accruals, allocations, fixed assets and intercompany transactions.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and comprehensive financial statements for leadership.
  • Lead external audits and manage workpapers for SOX controls.
  • Partner with business units on budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.

Reporting to the Controller U.S. Region, the Senior Accountant is a highly experienced, critical member of the Finance team, responsible for managing complex accounting activities, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the financial records, and providing comprehensive financial reporting and analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive the Financial Engine (Financial Reporting & General Ledger)
  • Own the Close: Drive the end-to-end monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes with a focus on speed, accuracy, and operational excellence.
  • Complex Ledger Management: Prepare, review, and post high-level journal entries, including complex accruals, revenue allocations, fixed assets, and intercompany transactions.
  • Financial Integrity: Conduct detailed balance sheet reconciliations and compile comprehensive financial statement packages (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) for executive review.
  • Solve Complex Challenges (Technical Accounting & Compliance)
  • Technical Research: Dive into complex, non-routine accounting matters (e.g., ASC 606 revenue recognition, ASC 842 lease accounting) and author clear, actionable technical memos.
  • Audit Ownership: Serve as a lead contact for external auditors, steering annual audit preparations, managing workpapers, and ensuring seamless compliance.
  • Strengthen Controls: Evaluate, refine, and maintain robust internal controls (SOX framework) to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risk.
  • Partner & Innovate (Financial Analysis & Process Improvement)
  • Insightful Analytics: Conduct deep-dive variance analyses (Actuals vs. Budget/Forecast), translating complex financial data into compelling stories and strategic recommendations for leadership.
  • Budgeting & Planning: Collaborate closely with the Finance Business Partner team and Controller to shape annual operating budgets and rolling forecasts.
  • Automation & Process Modernization: Identify operational bottlenecks and lead initiatives to streamline accounting workflows using modern tech tools and automation.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the strategic financial partner for key business departments, including Sales, Operations, and HR.
What You Bring
  • Must-Haves: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Must-Haves: Experience: 3 to 5 years of progressive, full-cycle accounting experience with a deep understanding of US GAAP.
  • Must-Haves: Technical Mastery: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets (pivot tables, index/match, advanced formulas, dynamic modeling).
  • Must-Haves: Problem-Solving Mindset: Exceptional analytical ability with a track record of untangling complex accounting scenarios.
  • Nice-to-Haves / Standout Qualifications: Active CPA or CMA designation (or actively working toward one).
