$100,000 - $115,000 a year

Key Responsibilities
General Ledger & Financial Reporting
  • Conduct detailed analysis and reconciliation of general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and adherence to GAAP and internal controls.
  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations to support timely financial reporting.
  • Execute monthly bank reconciliations and promptly resolve any discrepancies to maintain financial integrity.
  • Oversee recurring journal entries and manage month-end close activities within the accounting system.
  • Prepare accurate financial statements, variance analyses, and supporting schedules to assist leadership in decision-making.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports in accordance with GAAP and non-profit accounting standards.
Contribution, Revenue & Fund Accounting
  • Record and reconcile unrestricted and restricted contribution revenue — including individual donations, foundation grants, government awards, and corporate sponsorships — in accordance with ASC 958.
  • Record earned revenue from tuition, touring fees, and other program-related sources, ensuring proper classification and timely recognition in the general ledger.
  • Collaborate with the Advancement and Education Departments to ensure contribution and earned revenue transactions are accurately captured and reconciled on a monthly basis.
  • Maintain detailed records of unrestricted and restricted fund activity, ensuring proper revenue recognition and expense allocation.
  • Prepare and maintain a donor-restricted schedule tracking all restricted contributions, applicable conditions, and the timely release of restrictions to unrestricted net assets upon fulfillment of donor requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Development department to reconcile pledges, contributions, and grant drawdowns.
Compliance, Audit & Internal Controls
  • Maintain well-organized records of journal entries, bank statements, and supporting documentation for audit readiness.
  • Support the annual external audit and Form 990 preparation by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Assist in identifying control gaps and recommending enhancements to internal control policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements applicable to non-profit entities.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Process Improvement
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with accounting and operational teams to ensure data consistency and quality across systems.
  • Spearhead initiatives to clear backlogs of accounting tasks, improving workflow efficiency, and restoring timely financial operations.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline month-end close, reporting cycles, and documentation workflows.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior accounting staff as needed.
  • Support special projects, ad hoc financial analyses, and system implementations as assigned by the Controller or CFO.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum 4–6 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a non-profit organization.
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP, including non-profit accounting standards (ASC 958).
  • Proven experience with general ledger reconciliation, journal entries, and month-end close processes.
  • Demonstrated experience with grant accounting and restricted fund management.
  • Strong proficiency in accounting software.
