Job summary

American Ballet Theatre (ABT) seeks a Senior Accountant to ensure accurate financial records, perform general ledger maintenance, month-end close, and grant accounting. The role supports the Controller and works within ABT’s Finance team to strengthen financial health and compliance.

The ideal candidate has 4–6 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in nonprofit settings, and strong GAAP knowledge aligned to ASC 958.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 4–6 years progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in nonprofit accounting.
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP, including ASC 958 for nonprofits.
  • Proven general ledger reconciliation, journal entries, and month-end close experience.
  • Grant accounting and restricted fund management experience.
  • Strong proficiency in accounting software.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling).
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

Job description

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant will play a critical role within ABT's Finance team, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the organization's financial records. This individual will be responsible for general ledger maintenance, month-end close, grant compliance, and audit support — contributing directly to the financial health of the organization. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in non-profit accounting, exceptional attention to detail, and the initiative to drive process improvements. This role will report to the Controller.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum 4–6 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a non-profit organization.
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP, including non-profit accounting standards (ASC 958).
  • Proven experience with general ledger reconciliation, journal entries, and month-end close processes.
  • Demonstrated experience with grant accounting and restricted fund management.
  • Strong proficiency in accounting software.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling).
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
