We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accountant with strong inventory accounting experience to join our growing organization in Morton Grove, IL. This position will play a key role in maintaining accurate inventory records, supporting month-end close activities, analyzing inventory variances, and partnering with operations to ensure financial accuracy and effective inventory management. The ideal candidate will have 3-5+ years of accounting experience with significant exposure to inventory accounting in a manufacturing, distribution, consumer products, or related environment. Key Responsibilities
- Lead inventory accounting activities, including valuation, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Perform monthly inventory reconciliations and investigate inventory discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure compliance with GAAP.
- Prepare and post journal entries related to inventory, cost of goods sold, accruals, and general ledger activity.
- Coordinate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Conduct inventory variance and cost analyses, providing recommendations to improve profitability and inventory accuracy.
- Support and oversee physical inventory counts and cycle count programs.
- Partner with operations, purchasing, supply chain, and warehouse teams to improve inventory controls and reporting.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and prepare supporting schedules.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis related to inventory and manufacturing costs.
- Support internal and external audits, including inventory-related testing and documentation.
- Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen internal controls and accounting efficiency.
- Prepare management reports and provide insights regarding inventory trends and operational performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 3-5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including substantial inventory accounting experience.
- Experience in a manufacturing, distribution, consumer products, food production, or other inventory-intensive environment strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of inventory valuation, inventory controls, cost accounting, and financial reporting.
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms.
- Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis functions.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
- CPA designation or CPA-track preferred but not required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with standard costing and inventory reserve analysis.
- Exposure to manufacturing cost accounting.
- Experience supporting inventory audits and implementing process improvements.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
Salary Range: $85,000 - $105,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
