Job description

Gray Fox Collective provides fractional CFO and technical accounting services to closely held companies navigating high-stakes events - ESOP transactions, first-year audits, GAAP conversions, and financial reporting build-outs - and then stays alongside those companies as a long-term accounting partner once the transaction is behind them. We are hiring a Senior in Finance & Accounting Services to work side-by-side with the stakeholders on client engagements: building audit-ready workpapers, supporting external auditors and valuation professionals, and turning messy source data into defensible, formula-driven analysis.

This is a hands-on, high-ownership role with unusual exposure to deal mechanics for a firm this size. You will ramp quickly, wear multiple hats, and see the full arc of complex transactions from source data to post-close. Just as important, you will help carry those clients past the finish line of the transaction and into sustained, ongoing accounting support - turning the one-time work product into recurring processes that keep their books reliable year after year.

What You’ll Do
  • Build and maintain formula-driven workpapers and financial models that tie directly to source data with full audit traceability.
  • Support cash-to-GAAP conversions, including revenue recognition (ASC 606), leases (ASC 842), and percentage-of-completion / work-in-progress (WIP) schedules.
  • Prepare and reconcile schedules for external auditor and reviewer requests - trial balance walks, tie-outs, reconciliations, and technical accounting memos.
  • Assist with ESOP transaction workstreams, including data room preparation, valuation support schedules, and normalizing adjustments.
  • Research and document technical accounting positions in audit-ready memo form.
  • Proactively identify discrepancies and reconciling items, and drive them to resolution.
  • Help transition clients from project-based engagements into sustained, recurring accounting support - standing up month-end close processes, reconciliation cadences, and reporting packages that hold up well after the transaction closes.
  • Serve as a point of continuity for clients post-close, supporting ongoing ESOP-related needs such as annual valuation updates, repurchase obligation data, and year-end audit readiness.
  • Document processes and hand off clean, repeatable workflows so recurring monthly work is efficient, consistent, and scalable across the team.
Who You Are
  • Driven and ambitious. You take ownership, push work across the finish line, and want to grow into greater responsibility.
  • A quick learner. You ramp fast on new standards, systems, and client situations.
  • Adaptable and resourceful. You use every tool available - AI, research, your network, and first-principles thinking - to solve problems without waiting to be handed the answer.
  • Disciplined about accuracy. Everything ties, and every number traces to a source.
  • Relationship-minded. You build trust with client teams and enjoy seeing them through from the big event to a well-run steady state.
Required
  • 2+ years of public accounting audit experience.
  • 3+ years of industry accounting experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Advanced Excel - pivot tables, INDEX/MATCH, and the ability to read, follow, and troubleshoot existing formulas rather than hardcoding values.
  • Demonstrated workpaper discipline and attention to detail.
  • Based in the Denver metro area and able to work a hybrid schedule.
Preferred
  • CPA (active) or active CPA candidate.
  • Transaction experience - M&A, ESOP, purchase accounting, or diligence / data room support.
  • Hands-on exposure to ASC 606 and ASC 842.
  • Project-based industry background (A&E, construction, engineering) and familiarity with QuickBooks or a comparable accounting system.
Compensation & Logistics
  • $90,000-$110,000 salary, commensurate with experience and credentials.
  • 401k (3.5% match)
  • Healthcare (100% covered), Dental & Vision (75% covered)
