Job summary

The Ohio State University Physicians, Inc. is seeking a Senior Accountant to lead accounting and cash management functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, timely month-end close, and thorough reconciliations.

You will collaborate with department leaders and staff to deliver reliable financial insights across clinics and operations. Ideal candidates will have extensive accounting experience in healthcare, strong GAAP knowledge, and proficiency with Workday and Kronos Payroll.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field.
  • Five or more years of progressive accounting experience providing accounting, reporting, and compliance functions.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare month-end closing financial statements in accordance with company policies and standards.
  • Distribute financial statements and supporting documentation to appropriate management personnel within established deadlines.
  • Conduct review of financial statements and supporting documentation as part of the monthly close process; research and document results of variances.
  • Prepare reports and schedules, prepare journal entries, analyze and summarize accounts, and verify reports for accuracy.
  • Provide leadership to staff accountants and act as SME on software upgrades or design changes.
  • Respond to audit inquiries during OSUP audits of financial statements and pension.

The Senior Accountant is responsible for accounting and cash management functions, including accurate reporting on financial statements, reconciliations of balance sheet general ledger accounts, and timely completion of the month‑end close process. The role supports OSUP goals and values through professional communication and positive working relationships.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare month‑end closing financial statements in accordance with company policies and standards.
  • Distribute financial statements and supporting documentation to appropriate management personnel within established deadlines.
  • Conduct review of financial statements and supporting documentation as part of the monthly close process; research and document results of variances.
  • Prepare reports and schedules, prepare journal entries, analyze and prepare summaries of accounts, and verify reports for accuracy.
  • Act as a subject‑matter expert to new and existing staff.
  • Maintain a current working knowledge of the accounting system and recommend optimizations. Provide training to internal and external stakeholders and serve as SME on software upgrades or design changes.
  • Prepare and communicate financial results to senior‑level management.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with clinic and revenue‑cycle peers to correlate financial and clinical operations.
  • Facilitate monthly review meetings for presentation of financial statements with department leadership.
  • Prepare ad‑hoc reports; collect, analyze, and summarize financial information and trends.
  • Provide guidance in developing department policy, financial plans, and forecasts.
  • Respond to audit inquiries during the annual OSUP audits of financial statements and pension.
  • Provide information to ensure compliance with tax reporting and related compliance matters; participate in process improvement teams.
  • Assist the Accounting Manager and Sr. Accounting Manager in developing recommendations on department policies, financial plans, forecasts, and fiscal responsibilities.
  • Identify fixed assets and work with the Fixed Asset Manager to ensure proper accounting and tagging in accordance with OSUP financial accounting policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership to staff accountants.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.
Qualifications

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field or equivalent amount of schooling and work experience. Five or more years of progressive accounting experience providing accounting, reporting, and compliance functions.

Preferences: Experience with Workday and Kronos Payroll Systems.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in the healthcare industry preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office tools including Outlook and Excel.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of financial statements, including balance sheet, statement of operations, and cash flow.
  • Ability to conduct analysis of financial statements and other data sources to assist management in identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Ability to translate GAAP concepts to others in a clear and concise format.
  • Ability to interpret changes in subsidiary ledger transactions and the impact on financial and other reports, including intercompany transactions, and review, reconcile, and interpret these changes.
  • Current working knowledge of fixed assets, financial reporting, payroll, and account reconciliation, accounts payable, and multi‑location support.
  • Ability to understand and document accounting systems and procedures.
  • Ability to train staff in accounting, software and analysis skills.
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret data; develop, recommend, and implement solutions.
  • Position serves as a facilitator in change management within a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
  • Well‑organized, strong attention to detail, ability to effectively multi‑task and set priorities.
  • Ability to work with a high level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in pressure situations and to maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Pay Range

USD $66,002.37 - USD $99,003.55 /Yr.
