Job summary

The Ohio State University Physicians, Inc. is seeking a customer service-oriented professional to support patients and medical staff in a fast-paced outpatient environment.

You will collect coverage information, verify eligibility with payors, and help patients understand their financial responsibilities while maintaining HIPAA standards and a cooperative team approach. This role offers meaningful benefits and opportunities within OSUP.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with 1+ years of experience in insurance, healthcare, or related field.
  • Excellent customer service skills with enthusiasm and compassion in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for handling sensitive, confidential situations with patients and staff.
  • Good attendance, professionalism, detail-orientation, and cooperative teamwork.
  • Experience with PC applications including MS Office and Internet.
  • Ability to meet employer training requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Contacts patients or designees to collect accurate coverage information.
  • Uses health information systems and phone technology with customer service skills to present the Medical Center as accessible and coordinated.
  • Searches EPIC database to locate patient records and assesses financial ability to pay for services.
  • Sends eligibility requests to payors to verify coverage.
  • Maintains relationships with medical staff and referring physicians.
  • Demonstrates high level of customer service, confidentiality, and HIPAA compliance.
  • Alerts management to system or workflow problems.
  • Creates estimates and educates patients on financial liability; collects copayments and deposits.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Contacts patients or their designees to collect accurate coverage information.
  • Uses integrated health information systems and telephone technology with customer service skills to facilitate customer interactions such that the customer experiences the Medical Center and its entities as an accessible, coordinated, and seamless entity.
  • Performs an accurate search for patient in EPIC data base, thus, reducing the number of duplicate patient records. Assesses the patient’s financial ability to pay for services, referring patients to financial counseling staff when appropriate.
  • Sends eligibility requests to all payors to verify accurate and current coverage.
  • Interacts and maintains excellent working relationships with medical staff, referring physicians, and their designees.
  • Displays the highest level of customer service, attentiveness, and consideration possible in all cases, keeping within the standard set by the Office of Compliance and HIPAA in reference to confidentiality.
  • Alerts management of problems with systems and workflow.
  • Creates estimates, provides patients with financial liability education, and collects copayments and deposits as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED with 1+ years of experience in insurance, healthcare, or related field.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive, confidential situations and establish effective working relationships with patients, physicians, team members, and others throughout the organization.
  • Attendance, promptness, professionalism, the ability to pay attention to detail, cooperativeness with physicians, co-workers and supervisors, and politeness to customers, vendors, and patients.
  • Ability to evolve issues if necessary.
  • Experience with PC applications including MS Office and Internet.
  • Ability to maintain employer training requirements.
Pay Range

USD $16.59 - USD $24.89 /Hr.
