Job description

Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Senior Accountant for a highly mission-driven nonprofit organization. This is a hybrid position requiring three days onsite and two days remote in Downtown Chicago.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Accountant will support the organization’s day-to-day accounting and finance operations while partnering closely with the Controller and a small finance team. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of a broad range of accounting responsibilities, contribute to month-end, year-end, and audit activities, and help strengthen financial processes and systems. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support the organization’s day-to-day accounting functions and overall finance operations, including month-end and year-end activities.
  • Assist with year-end and audit-related activities by preparing financial information, documentation, and supporting materials as needed.
  • Partner closely with the Controller and small finance team across a broad range of accounting responsibilities.
  • Learn and support the organization’s allocation system and related financial processes.
  • Participate in the implementation of a new Accounts Payable and expense management system, taking ownership of designated portions of the implementation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and systems while taking ownership of projects and additional responsibilities as knowledge and experience grow.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong accounting fundamentals and experience operating at the Senior Accountant level.
  • Nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred; candidates from for-profit environments are welcome if they can adapt to a mission-driven nonprofit setting.
  • Comfortable working in a lean organization where team members wear multiple hats and take ownership of varied responsibilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with the Controller and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new systems, processes, and responsibilities while managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • The salary range for this position is $75,000-$80,000.
  • Benefits include UnitedHealthcare medical coverage with dental and vision, 100% employer-paid employee premiums and 50% coverage for spouse/dependents, short- and long-term disability, a 401(k) employer match, and three weeks of vacation upon hire.
