Senior Accountant, Workday Financials (Contract) Location: Hybrid | Wayne, PA Area

About the OpportunityA growing professional services organization is seeking a Senior Accountant with strong Workday Financials expertise to support a high-volume accounting environment during a major ERP implementation and post-go-live stabilization period. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting professional who can quickly integrate into the team, contribute immediately, and help drive accurate financial reporting and operational efficiency within Workday Financial Management. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of accounting expertise, systems knowledge, and experience working in project-based or staffing-related business environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage assigned general ledger accounts, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and variance analysis.
- Execute month-end and year-end close activities within Workday Financial Management while ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and resolve outstanding reconciling items.
- Build, maintain, and troubleshoot Workday reports, dashboards, and EIBs to support financial reporting, audits, and business analysis.
- Support Workday testing, configuration updates, chart-of-accounts maintenance, and business process enhancements.
- Partner with FP&A, billing, and operational teams to support project-based accounting activities, including revenue-related and contractor cost reconciliations.
- Assist with internal and external audit requests while identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes and system efficiencies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience with a strong focus on general ledger accounting and month-end close.
- Hands-on experience with Workday Financial Management, including:
- General Ledger
- Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
- Procurement and/or Expense Management
- Worktags, cost centers, and chart of accounts structures
- Workday reporting tools, custom reports, and EIBs
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, reconciliations, and journal entry preparation.
- Prior experience in professional services, staffing, consulting, or another project-based business environment.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, lookups, and reconciliation analysis.
- Ability to work independently and deliver results with minimal onboarding in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain financial and system-related concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or active pursuit of CPA certification.
- Workday Financials Certification or Workday Pro Financials designation.
- Experience with Workday Adaptive Planning and/or Workday Prism Analytics.
- Prior involvement in a Workday implementation, go-live, or post-implementation support environment.
- Experience within multi-entity or multi-currency organizations.
