Job description

Homeward aims to take the “what ifs” out of homebuying by creating financial products that buyers and sellers use to get certainty and convenience in the real estate market. We’re a fast-paced, remote-first, real estate start-up that partners with agents to offer innovative products and services, helping clients buy with cash, sell with certainty, and time their move —no matter the market. We offer bundled services across offers, Mortgage, and Title, making buying a home more seamless.

Founder and CEO Tim Heyl, a 10-year industry veteran and owner of one of the fastest-growing agent teams in the country, started Homeward in 2018. In fact, he bought our first customer’s home with his own life savings. Today we offer four services -- Buy with Cash, Buy Before You Sell, Sell Before You List, and Backed by Cash, in the 7 states we serve -- Texas, Georgia, Florida, Colorado, Arizona, Oregon, and Washington.

As a remote company, we anchor to our three core values as a collective way to care for each other, represent our work, and reinforce our mission to make homebuying more accessible for all. Those are: The Golden Rule, One Team One Dream, and Calm Focus.

About The Opportunity

Homeward is looking for a highly motivated individual with strong accounting skills to join us as a Senior Accountant. This position will review and perform accounting tasks, including journal entries and reconciliations. Additionally, this person will be the primary contact for accounts receivable and accounts payable. Reporting directly to the Accounting Manager, this role will be a hands-on, solution-oriented problem solver who can oversee these processes to keep up with the demands of Homeward’s high-growth business.

In This Role, You Will:
  • Oversee accounts payable - including ensuring the completeness and accuracy of G/L coding, invoice amounts, department coding, invoice timing, approval workflows, etc.
  • Oversee corporate credit card expenditures - including ensuring the completeness and accuracy of G/L coding, receipt amounts, department coding, etc.
  • Oversee accounts receivable - including ensuring the completeness and accuracy of G/L coding, invoice amounts, department coding, invoice timing, invoice collections, and follow-ups with customers and other departments etc.
  • Directly communicate with vendors, contractors, customers, and internal cross-functional department employees on invoices and payment details (Slack, phone, email)
  • Coordinate and manage the organization of invoices, contracts, and agreements
  • Work heavily in Excel/Google Sheets spreadsheet using advanced formulas and pivot tables
  • Enter and review journal entries (including intercompany journal entries)
  • Prepare internal trackers and accounts reconciliations
  • Perform all assigned month-end and year-end tasks, mainly focusing on AP, AR, and corporate accounting
  • Analyze account information and trends, and provide comments on variance analysis
  • Bring continuous improvement - seek ways to streamline processes, increase efficiency, and accuracy
  • Apply a broad knowledge of advanced accounting methods and procedures (US GAAP)
  • Train, manage, and review daily the work performed by a team of virtual assistants
  • Focus on teamwork, collaboration, with a proactive and positive attitude towards any task assigned
  • Escalate any issues to the direct manager proactively and promptly.
What You’ll Bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or finance
  • 3-5 years of extensive experience in accounts payable & accounts receivable tasks and reviews
  • Ability to patiently and efficiently perform in a fast-paced environment and handle and manage multiple workloads, priorities, and deadlines, while maintaining a great attitude during tight deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • High degree of accuracy in work; detail-oriented
  • Strong problem-solving skills (ability to research proactively and independently, to bring solutions to your direct manager)
  • Strong technical skills in Excel/Google Sheets (strong understanding of logic functions, lookups, pivot tables, etc.)

  • Twenty days of vacation, five sick days, twelve company holidays, and two floating holidays each year
  • Generous paid parental leave of up to 14 weeks
Value-Driven Employee Experience

THE GOLDEN RULE. It’s simple: Treat others the way we want to be treated. Whether we’re dealing with colleagues or customers, we don’t prioritize money or growth over people, and we practice empathy at every opportunity.

CALM FOCUS. We work in tech and build solutions for real estate. Both are fast-paced and stressful industries. But by focusing on the larger objective rather than rushing from one task to the next, we can create solutions our customers love.

ONE TEAM, ONE DREAM. Big problems require big solutions. We look at our customers’ experiences holistically and recognize that solving them requires collaboration across teams and our three affiliate companies — Homeward, Homeward Mortgage and Homeward Title.
