WHO YOU ARE:

A detail-oriented and highly organized accounting professional with a deep understanding of multi-state tax compliance and financial reporting. Known for your reliability and accuracy, you thrive in fast-paced environments where deadlines matter. You bring strong analytical skills and a sharp eye for identifying discrepancies across complex, multi-jurisdictional filings. Your excellent communication skills make you an effective collaborator across departments, and you approach every challenge with a problem-solving mindset. You are committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and confidentiality while helping the organization stay ahead of its compliance obligations.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
Revenue & Tax Compliance:
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations ensuring revenue reported in sales and consumer use tax returns (e-filed via Avalara) aligns with the Company’s financial ledgers, and work cross-functionally to resolve process variances.
  • Prepare and file monthly sales and consumer use tax returns for acquired entities until integration into the Company’s ERP is complete.
  • Compile fiscal-year-to-date sales-by-state data (origin and destination) to support state apportionment calculations.
  • Monitor annual sales by state to identify jurisdictions requiring new tax registrations (Nexus).
  • Serve as primary user/administrator of Avalara’s Avatax software.
  • Record and reconcile tax liabilities for sales/use tax and other non-income tax obligations (business tax, commercial activity tax, commerce tax, etc.).
Business Personal Property:
  • Serve as primary point of contact with the Company’s third-party preparer for annual property tax renditions.
  • Record and reconcile tax liabilities for business personal property and leased real properties (single, double, and triple net).
  • Prepare 13-week property tax payment forecasts and submit to Treasury; initiate and document all property tax payments.
  • Generate monthly fixed asset and depreciation reports required for state and federal income tax return preparation.
Customer Credits & Unclaimed Property:
  • Track and analyze unapplied credit balances in trade receivable accounts.
  • Collaborate with revenue cycle functions to minimize the Company’s tax exposure for unclaimed property and escheatment.
Audit & Regulatory Support:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for state and local tax authorities during desk reviews, inquiries, and audits.
  • Compile revenue, asset, and ledger data requested by the Company’s third-party preparers for state, federal, and foreign income tax returns.

  • Record and reconcile the Company’s tax liabilities for state, federal, and foreign income taxes.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
  • Perform detailed reconciliations of compliance-related balance sheet accounts to ensure data integrity.
  • Enforce processes and policies that mitigate financial risk and prevent fraud.
  • Compile necessary documentation, schedules, and workpapers for external audits (local, state, federal, and financial).
Collaboration & Support:
  • Partner with cross-functional departments to address unexpected variances or inquiries and implement corrective action.
  • Comprehend multi-state taxation of revenue and assets to provide accurate guidance across the organization.
SKILLS YOU BRING:
