Job summary

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies seeks a Department Manager to lead administrative operations. You will translate academic priorities into effective processes, partner with the Chair and faculty, and coordinate with central units to ensure compliant, efficient service delivery across the department.

Qualifications

• Interpersonal skills to interact with faculty, staff, students, researchers and university personnel
• Able to write precisely, clearly, concisely and proofread documents to eliminate errors
• Analytical reasoning for evaluating complex requirements and regulations at multiple levels
• Experience with computerized financial reporting and analysis systems and business technology
• Experience in planning, organizing and implementing effective management systems
• Extensive financial and management experience in a complex organization

Responsibilities

• Serve as senior administrative leader translating academic priorities into operational execution
• Coordinate with Department Chair, faculty, and centralized units (Finance, HR, Sponsored Research, Accounting)
• Supervise department staff and ensure accountability for outcomes across distributed service delivery
