Job summary

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a Department Manager to lead the department of Anthropology, Curriculum in Archaeology and the Research Laboratories of Archaeology. You will translate academic priorities into operational execution within a decentralized school environment.

Responsibilities include partnering with Chairs and faculty, coordinating with central units, and supervising staff to ensure effective service delivery while aligning with College standards.

Qualifications

• Interpersonal skills for interacting with faculty, staff, students, researchers and university personnel.
• Ability to write precisely, clearly, and concisely and to proofread documents to eliminate errors.
• Analytical and reasoning abilities for evaluating complex requirements and regulations at university, state, and federal levels.
• Experience with computerized financial reporting and analysis systems with understanding of business computer technology.
• Experience in planning, organizing, and implementing effective management systems.
• Extensive financial and other management experience in a complex organization.

Responsibilities

• Lead administrative operations for the Department of Anthropology and related units.
• Coordinate with centralized service units (Finance, HR, Sponsored Research, Accounting).
• Ensure departmental needs are met through proactive planning and service coordination.
• Supervise department staff and uphold accountability for outcomes.
