Job summary

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University seeks a Senior Academic Advisor / Assistant Director to deliver individualized advising, learning support, and intervention services for health sciences students. You will help promote retention and success through tailored plans, coaching, and collaboration with faculty and university offices.

You will oversee tutoring services, support academic support initiatives, and contribute to program assessment and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Master's degree in School Psychology, Educational Psychology, or related field.
Experience in academic advising, coaching, learning support, or academic interventions in higher education.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Familiarity with student information systems or academic support technology.

Responsibilities

Provide individualized and small-group academic advising and coaching to improve performance and learning skills.
Identify learning challenges and develop targeted academic improvement strategies.
Monitor progress and follow up with students, including those on academic probation.
Collaborate with faculty and staff to address barriers to student success and recommend interventions.
Develop and coordinate academic support workshops and study skills sessions.
Coordinate tutoring services and supervise student tutors to support multiple programs.
