Job summary

Georgetown University’s College advising team seeks an experienced academic advisor to support the Dean of the College. The role covers 3700 undergraduates across ~50 majors and ~50 minors, upholding academic policies and degree requirements across the program portfolio.

You will maintain academic records for ~300 advisees, review transfer credits, study abroad, program changes, and degree-audit exceptions, and collaborate with partner offices to support student success and well-being.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an academic field appropriate to a college of arts and sciences.
• 3-5 years’ experience in higher education advising or administration.
• Demonstrated interest in academic advising.
• Appreciation for the value of a liberal arts education.
• An understanding of Georgetown’s Jesuit and Catholic identity.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; good listening skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet time-sensitive deadlines, and set priorities.
• Strong orientation to detail.
• A penchant for problem-solving.
• Ability to work well under pressure and function as a team player.
• Poise, diplomacy and confidence to handle confidential matters with faculty, parents and offices.
• Sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population.

Responsibilities

• Advise 3700 undergraduates pursuing ~50 majors and ~50 minors.
• Monitor progress toward degrees, arbitrate issues, oversee registration, provide academic guidance.
• Review/approve transfer credit, study abroad, changes to a student’s academic program, and exceptions in degree audits.
• Maintain academic files and ensure integrity of the academic record for approx. 300 advisees.
• Refer to and collaborate with campus partner offices; participate in College activities.
