Job summary

University of South Carolina is seeking an Undergraduate Academic Advisor to support approximately 300 students in transitioning to college, planning their programs and engaging across campus. You will meet regularly with students, College staff, and the University Advising Center to ensure successful progression.

The role involves maintaining a 30-hour advising schedule, managing caseloads, and participating in ongoing training to stay current with policies, program changes, and campus

Qualifications

  • Requires a Master’s degree in a job related field and 1 year of job related experience, or bachelor’s degree and 3 years of job related experience.
  • Preferred: Masters degree and one year advising experience.
  • Knowledge of undergraduate advising practices and student service; experience with technology.
  • Ability to understand University Policy and Procedures; strong communication and organizational skills; maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual advising to approximately 300 assigned students to assist in transitioning to college and academic planning.
  • Maintain an average advising schedule of 30 hours per week and manage student caseloads.
  • Host outreach events, participate in ongoing training and certification, and use available technologies for effective advising.
  • Assist with orientation, degree audits, course selection, and interpretation of policy and progression requirements.
