Job summary

Stripe is seeking an Abuse Control Engineer to design, prototype, and incubate technical defenses that safeguard Stripe’s financial ecosystem against complex abuse vectors. You will translate threat intelligence into precise control requirements such as API rate limits, step-up challenges, and pre-debit holds while balancing security with user conversion.

As part of the ACE team, you’ll run experiments, manage an incubation lifecycle, and collaborate with product engineering to transfer mature

Qualifications

• 10+ years in security/anti-abuse engineering in high-scale production
• Bachelor's or Master's in CS / cybersecurity / related field or equivalent
• Strong software development background with Python/Go/Java and advanced SQL for telemetry
• Experience building API safeguards, rate-limiting, auth checks, input validation

Responsibilities

• Rapid control prototyping across API, protocol, and product boundaries
• Translate attacker evidence and FT3 threat research into technical requirements
• Co-design secure controls across payments, onboarding, identity, and Connect
• Run experiments and A/B tests to measure risk reduction vs user conversion
• Build regression tests and automated attack simulations with Abuse Research
• Define handoff criteria and transfer mature controls to product teams
