Job summary

State of South Carolina's Attorney General's Office seeks a Special Assistant Attorney General to prosecute criminal cases with a SCDC nexus across the state. You will manage a personal caseload and provide legal advice on warrants, evidence, and future issues.

Responsibilities include after-hours availability, briefing on legal matters, drafting briefs, and assisting in legislation. JD and SC bar membership required; equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• A juris doctor degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school and experience as a practicing attorney.
• Must be a member and in good standing with the South Carolina bar.
• Must have satisfied the 403 Requirements.
• Prosecutorial experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assigned as a Special Assistant Attorney General, prosecutes criminal cases with a SCDC nexus.
• Advise on search warrants, evidence and future legal issues.
• Assist in releasing documentation to FOIA requests, subpoenas, and rule 5 matters.
• Produce documents for defendants or their lawyers as required by law.
• Respond after hours in person or by phone for serious crime scenes and emergencies.
• Research legal issues, prepare briefs and oral arguments.
• Keep leadership informed of changes in state and federal law.
• Serve as liaison between solicitor's offices, AG's office and others.
