Job summary

Ericsson in Boise, ID and Santa Clara, CA seeks a Senior Modem Firmware Engineer to own the end-to-end modem stack on OpenWrt platforms. You will design, implement, and optimize kernel drivers, user-space daemons, and network configuration for reliable 5G connectivity with seamless failover.

Responsibilities include integrating modems, optimizing interfaces, and performing FOTA updates. A strong background in embedded Linux, OpenWrt, and cellular modems is required.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in embedded Linux development and 2+ years with OpenWrt or similar.
• 2+ years integrating cellular modems; 5+ years across multiple chipsets preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science.

Responsibilities

• Integrate 5G modem modules into OpenWrt-based router and gateway platforms.
• Develop and maintain kernel drivers for modem interfaces (USB, PCIe).
• Implement and optimize QMI/RMNET/AT command interfaces for modem control.
• Configure network interfaces, routing policies, and failover mechanisms.
• Create and manage daemons for connection management and band selection.
• Integrate SMS, GPS/GNSS, and voice functionality where applicable.
• Optimize throughput and reduce latency across modem interfaces.
• Perform modem firmware updates (FOTA) and version control.
• Debug connectivity across RF, baseband, driver, and user-space layers.
• Collaborate with hardware teams on antenna design validation and RF.
• Create integration docs and developer guides.
