Job summary

MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington, MA is seeking a seasoned machinist to lead high-precision fabrication in a fast-paced R&D environment. You will own end-to-end fabrication lifecycles for complex parts, collaborating with program engineers and other machinists to select machines, tooling, and processes for sub-thou accuracy.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in simultaneous 5-axis machining, strong GD&T interpretation, fixture design skills, and experience mentoring juniors.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in simultaneous 5-axis machining with setup, CAM programming, and tool selection.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and interpret GD&T.
• Design and fabricate basic fixtures.
• Mentor junior machinists.
• Experience with inspection tools: calipers, micrometers, dial indicators.
• Proficient in CAM and 3D CAD; MS Office.
• Eager to learn new fabrication techniques and tools.
• Work well in a team; participate in manufacturability reviews.
• Self-motivated in R&D prototyping; maintain clean, safe workspace; lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end fabrication lifecycle for assigned parts, developing fabrication approach, fixtures, tooling, CAM, setup and machine operation.
• Collaborate with program engineers and machinists to select machines/techniques for high-precision parts.
• Contribute to problem solving, process improvements, and documentation during prototyping.
• Mentor junior machinists and share knowledge to raise team capability.
• Maintain a clean, organized, safe work area and adhere to safety protocols.
