Job summary

Rivian is seeking a Sr. Additive Specialist in California to operate, program, and optimize additive manufacturing systems. You will work across SLS, FDM, and SLA platforms, program layouts, troubleshoot, and ensure high-quality parts in a fast-paced prototype environment.

The role requires 2–4 years in technical AM, strong understanding of slicing software, and ability to work semi-independently with limited supervision. Competitive benefits accompany this position.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years hands-on experience in a technical additive manufacturing, prototype lab, or R&D environment.
• Near-full understanding of machine operations, slicing/build preparation software, and material properties.
• Proven ability to handle moderately complex assignments, exercise sound technical judgment, and work semi-independently.
• High school diploma or GED; technical cert or Associate degree preferred.
• Hands-on proficiency with Stratasys and FormLabs machines.
• Open to constructive feedback, strong peer-to-peer communication, and a strong work ethic.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Build programming and optimization: program, optimize, and schedule build layouts using GrabCad and PreForm to maximize part quality and throughput.
• Machine operations and troubleshooting: maintain readiness, setup, operation, and basic hardware troubleshooting.
• Post-processing and finishing: oversee cleaning, sanding, deburring, bonding, surface finishing, and assembly.
• Continuous improvement: experiment with build setups and materials to improve process consistency.
• Collaboration: maintain communication with the team and national department.
• Lab maintenance and logistics: manage materials inventory and support shipping logistics.
