Job summary

Connex Education is seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils across Taunton and surrounding areas from September 2026. The role offers flexible day-to-day supply, short-term placements, and long-term opportunities within mainstream primary schools, helping children access learning and achieve targets.

You’ll work with teachers and SENCOs to support learners with diverse needs, promoting confidence, independence, and inclusive learning environments.

Qualifications

• Experience with children or young people with SEND is desirable.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply through Connex Education.
• Right to work in the UK and safeguarding awareness.
• Experience in schools, childcare, youth work, care, or support work is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups throughout the school day
• Assist teachers in delivering engaging and accessible learning activities
• Support pupils with communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and learning needs
• Help pupils remain focused and engaged during lessons
• Encourage independence and promote positive learning behaviours
• Adapt support strategies to meet individual learning needs and EHCP targets where applicable
• Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENCOs, parents, and external professionals
• Assist with personal care where required, following appropriate training and school guidance
• Help create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment
